Presentations on various topics continue within the framework of the project "Shusha - Karabakh yesterday, today, tomorrow" implemented by the Azerbaijan Independence Museum, AZERTAJ reports.

The next presentation is dedicated to the Chukha, one of the men's outerwear of our cultural capital Shusha.

According to Kitabi Deda Gorgud's epics, chukha, which is presented as a type of outerwear for men, has not undergone any serious changes over the centuries due to the method of knitting and sewing technique.

The chukhas that have come down to our time are cut and sewn in three parts: body (elbow), arm and skirt. Among the types of chukhas, "duzyakha", "oyma-yakha", "atmagol" chukhas are widespread.

In addition to giving aesthetic beauty to Atmagol Chukha, it also had functional importance. These include the use of chapars to deceive the enemy during battle and to protect their hands from the cold.

The stage of complete formation of Chukha coincides with the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The color of the chukhas was also of special importance. White and blue chukkas were class indicators. The "groom's coat" of young people was white. Until the 1960s, you could still see elders wearing chukkas in our regions.

In recent times, chukha has lost its relevance as a daily wear and is used in dance ensembles and theaters.
